Mitch Daniels surprises Purdue senior with 2021 Tyler Trent Award

Purdue University President Mitch Daniels recently surprised senior Kyle Albertson by dropping in on Kyle’s virtual meeting with Department of Agricultural Economics advisor Andy Oppy. Instead of a conversation about graduation plans, Kyle learned that he has been selected as the third recipient of Purdue’s Tyler Trent Courage and Resilience Award.

Purdue established the award in 2019 to recognize undergraduate students who “have encountered serious physical or similarly daunting adversity in their pursuit of higher education.” Although Kyle has used a wheelchair since age 3 because of muscular dystrophy, he excelled both inside and outside the classroom at Purdue. The Fowler, Indiana, native is the first licensed drone-spraying contractor in Indiana and even started his own company, Albertson Drone Service.
