Chris Bentley gained an online master’s and became a part of the faculty

Chris Bentley saw value in a Purdue Global degree to help move his career forward. He’s sharing how earning an online master’s degree in information technology has contributed to success.

I didn’t hesitate to jump in and earn my degree with Purdue Global. It’s given me the confidence that I needed to move forward in my career, and it’s even opened doors to new opportunities.

I’m the senior information technology project manager at Purdue University, but I began my career in education. My background as a teacher has given me some strengths that I’m still using today. Project management is a big one. I learned how to focus on what’s going on, what’s coming up, what’s been completed – that still comes in handy – but I was looking to sharpen my technical skills while I was the IT support and service manager for the College of Health and Human Sciences. I felt like I didn’t have the competitive edge that other people who had always been in IT have.

It’s been extremely rewarding, sort of like coming back home.

Gaining my master’s degree in information technology has not only strengthened my credentials, but it’s also introduced me to a role in teaching again. In addition to my job as the senior IT manager, I’m a part of the adjunct faculty at Purdue Global. It’s been extremely rewarding, sort of like coming back home. I love that I can teach what I’ve learned throughout my career trajectory.

My job in IT and the coursework I cover as an educator at Purdue Global are definitely intertwined. Someone will ask a question, and I’m like, “Funny you ask that, because I just experienced that very thing two weeks ago.” It runs side by side.

I loved being a student at Purdue Global because it gave me a goal to complete. No matter what kind of day I was having, I knew I had to focus on school so I could advance in my job. There was stability on my path to success.

A definite advantage was being able to balance my schoolwork with the rest of my life, especially as my children have gotten older. I could get my assignments done and still catch my kid’s band concert. That meant the world to me.
