When Afua Bruce ventured into the sea of orange statues of women in STEM on display at the Smithsonian gardens and museums, a sense of awe settled over her. And then she saw a familiar face among the figures: her own.

After extensive testing, members of Purdue’s chapter of the Acoustical Society of America determined what causes the audible squeaking sound when someone claps while standing in the University’s famous clapping circle.

When Chase Morris applied to Purdue, he viewed the University as his dream school. He esteems Purdue the way many esteem Ivy League schools. “I knew that Purdue is a really good school, and I knew it would look great on my resume,” Chase says.

As a freshman at Purdue, Aryana looks back at her college search process and notes that she couldn’t have done it without her parents’ guidance and support. “When I was looking for colleges, I looked with my parents,” she says. “We were deciding together.”

When Purdue University computer science student Niyati Sriram set out to secure an internship for the summer before her senior year, she didn’t put much emphasis on representation. As an Indian American woman, she was used to being one of only a few women among her computer science peers, and one of even fewer women of color.
