Why mentorship matters to Purdue biomedical engineering head

When David Umulis describes his passion for mentorship, he does so from a very personal place. As the Dane A. Miller Head of Purdue’s Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering, Umulis encourages and supports the school’s students and faculty as they work to create the next world-changing innovation. In doing so, Umulis pays forward the invaluable support he received as a young scholar from a family friend, Dr. Meg Meeker. Just as Meeker once inspired Umulis, a first-generation college student, to overcome doubts that he would succeed, Umulis feels compelled to provide the emotional, intellectual and resource support to help colleagues make their own giant leaps.
